Singapore Association of Women Lawyers is a professional body and non-profit organisation, which has made significant contributions for the community since its formation in 1974. Not resting on her laurels, SAWL seeks to do better and more each year and continue on with the efforts to build a more inclusive society by supporting even more individuals, no matter their starting point.

What We Do

THE SAWL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Achieved Institution of Public Character (IPC) status and continues to maintain IPC status. Raises funds to award scholarships to physically and mentally disabled students.

 

BOOKS

You & The Law ($18) - Simplified and easy to read. You & The Law contains 20 different areas of the law and other common topics. Available at all major bookstores.

Teens & The Law ($10) - Basic principles of legal protection and information catered specially to teenagers. Easy to read, teenagers will now understand the real life consequences and penalties of breaking the law. Available at all major bookstores.

LEGAL CLINICS @ SCWO

SAWL’s Pro Bono Legal Consultation Clinics are part of SAWL’s commitment to make legal information accessible to the community. Legal clinics are conducted every 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. Contact SCWO 6837 0611 to check if you are eligible for free legal consultation.

 

CEDAW

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979, is an international treaty that defines what constitutes discrimination against women. The Singapore government ratified CEDAW in 1995 and SAWL is proud to be part of the participating NGOs that report the process and provide the CEDAW Committee with information relating to government’s implementation of the Convention obligations.
